Surfing Workout: Become a Stronger Surfer : Push Up Exercises for Surfers

Welcome to Expert Village. I am Schell Michael and in this segment we’re going to be talking about your surfer’s workout. Now for one of the more difficult exercise seems to be for not just women, men have a lot of problems with this too. The Almighty Push Up. This will definitely help you. You’re going to get strength here and in your arms as well as in your back. A lot of this may seem repetitive, but we definitely want to just go through it just to help you guys just to be aware and the more exercises you’re going to do, the stronger you’re going to get. So push ups are very beneficial. If you can’t do the regular, standard one just from you toes and your hands, like this, go to your knees and maybe just do a little bit of that. It’s more about upper body anyway, so don’t feel bad if you have to go onto your knees. Push ups definitely relate to surfing because you’re pushing up off of your board and the stand up has to be, it’s like kind of paramount to your surfing. It’s like the split second you have between catching that wave and getting on the wave. Sometimes if your stand up takes too long, you’re kind of just like you missed the wave and you’re just in the white water and then everything is kind of just like, “Oh, well that wasn’t too great. It took me forever to stand up.” A push up helps you get up quickly. If you can do lots of push ups and get your upper body strength, you just push up real quick, you stand up when you?re on the wave and you get going. So definitely if you’re stronger in this area, you’re going to be stronger out there in the water. .
