Paws Up! Dogs Catch Waves In Huntington Beach Surfing Competition

Well the world’s best surfing dogs are in Huntington Beach this weekend the participants are showing off their skills on the waves CBS 2’s joy Benedict takes us to the beach Surf City has officially gone to the dogs for this pump balance is important especially if he’s gonna stay on his board he does better than I do I can’t surf again but the Surf City surf dog competition is a family affair dog dad Ryan Thor had to carry his pint-sized pooch into the water but once on his board Prince dude man didn’t need any help he gets ready crouches down and he feels the wave and he’ll actually move to keep you know steer the board and stay on the way rusty was giving the small dogs a little competition as well he was at the shelter as a stray and he has been the joy of my life for a while now for two years he’s just a wonderful dog this is the 9th year for the surf dog competition man and man’s best friend get 10 minutes in the water to catch as many waves as possible they’re judged on their time on the board and difficulty of the ride at 60 pounds George the English bulldog was eating everything including my mic and his surfboard does he float or sink dogs usually sink but we have a really good life preserver just in case junior lifeguards were on hand to fetch as all the surfers couldn’t dog paddle in all there are about 70 dogs like Georgia participating in this event many of them have been surfing for years for some of them it was their first time this will be her first contest Georgia brought her parents from Vancouver Island but her dad pulled her out early as the waves kept knocking her under she had a couple good dunks and I don’t want to push it it’s got to be fun and doggone fun it was for the pups and their parents to win or lose know every dog has its day joy Benedict CBS 2 News
